Director
Mr. John Gennaro was appointed to serve as the Director for VA Butler Healthcare, effective February 26, 2012. Mr. Gennaro comes to VA Butler Healthcare from the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System where he served as the Deputy Director since October 2010. Mr. Gennaro's previous leadership roles include Associate Director for site management at VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System and Associate Director at the Erie VA Medical Center. Mr. Gennaro began his career with the Department of Veterans Affairs in 1997 in the Research Foundation at the Cincinnati VA Medical Center. He then moved to the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center, where he held various positions of responsibility.
Mr. Gennaro received his bachelor’s degree in natural sciences and master's degrees in business administration and health care services administration from Xavier University. He is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and serves on the Board of Directors for the YMCA.
Associate Director for Operations
Ms. Rebecca Hubscher was appointed to serve as the Associate Director for Operations for VA Butler Healthcare, effective June 3, 2012. Ms. Hubscher comes to VA Butler Healthcare from the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System (VAPHS) where she served as the Vice President of Community Based Care since March 2008. She began her career at VAPHS in 1998 as a social worker. Her experiences also include Chief of the VA Mental Health Clinic in Grand Rapids, Michigan and manager of the Home and Community Care Line at the Lebanon VA Medical Center.
Ms. Hubscher received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Psychology/Sociology from Carlow College. She obtained her master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh, and earned her master’s degree in Business Administration at Waynesburg College. Ms. Hubscher is also a recent graduate of the Executive Career Field Program.
Nurse Executive
Ms. Sharon Parson was appointed to serve as the Associate Director for Patient Care Services for VA Butler Healthcare, effective April 2007. Ms. Parson came to VA Butler Healthcare from the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System (VAPHS) where she held various positions of responsibility. Her previous leadership roles include Associate Chief Nurse at VA Butler Healthcare and Nurse Manager at VAPHS. She began her career at VAPHS in 1999 as a nursing VALOR student.
Ms. Parson received her bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Duquesne University. She obtained her master’s degree in Business Administration and master’s degree in Nursing at Waynesburg College. Ms. Parson serves as the VISN 4 Geriatrics and Extended Care Lead and as the VISN 4 Lead Nurse Executive.
Chief of Staff
Dr. Burke comes to Butler from the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System where he served as the Vice President of the Primary Care Service line. Dr. Burke first joined the VA as a staff physician at the Syracuse VA Medical Center in 1999. He then went to VA Pittsburgh as a primary care team leader at the Heinz campus in 2004. He served briefly as the chief of the hospitalist section before becoming Vice President for Primary Care in November 2007.
Dr. Burke received his medicine degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1996 and completed primary care internal medicine residency training at Brigham and Women's Hospital in 1999. He has represented VA Pittsburgh Healthcare and VISN 4 on the National Utilization Management Advisory Committee (NUMAC). He is also an assistant professor of medicine at University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
