VA2K to Support Homeless Veterans and Promote Health and Exercise
Butler, PA – VA Butler Healthcare will host the 8th Annual VA2K Walk and Roll on May 16, 2018. The VA2K Walk and Roll is dedicated to supporting homeless Veterans while also encouraging healthy activity.
The VA2K event includes a short two kilometer walk (approximately 1.2 miles) and the community is invited to participate. The event is free and will be held at the Abie Abraham VA Health Care Center from 10am-2pm or at the New Castle Road Campus from 12pm-1pm.
Participants are encouraged to bring a voluntary donation that will be distributed to local homeless Veterans. Nationally, since 2011 donations valued at approximately $2 million dollars have been raised for homeless Veterans. Donations are not required in order to participate.
“The VA2K Walk and Roll is one of the ways we encourage our staff to adopt healthy lifestyles. It’s also a great way for them to help homeless Veterans,” said Patricia O’Kane, VA Butler’s Interim Director. “VA Butler has participated in the annual VA2K event for the last seven years for a total of 1,679 participants walking 2,082 miles and collecting items totaling $13,264.96 for homeless Veterans.”
This year’s event will include a kick-off at 10am with VA Butler’s Leadership Team. After participating, attendees can enjoy a low-cost lunch sponsored by the Employee Activity Association.
