Million Veteran Program to visit VA Butler Healthcare

What: The Million Veteran Program (MVP), VA’s initiative to advance genomic research is coming to VA Butler Healthcare. Local Veterans will have the opportunity to learn about and volunteer to join the program.

Who: All Veterans enrolled at VA Butler Healthcare

When: Tuesday, May 23, 2017 from 8:30am-2:30pm

Background: MVP is a national, voluntary research program funded entirely by the Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Research & Development. The goal of MVP is to partner with Veterans receiving their care in the VA Healthcare System to study how genes affect health.

Over the past five years, nearly 10,000 Western Pennsylvania Veterans have signed on to be a part of the Million Veteran Program (MVP). Well over 550,000 Veterans have enrolled in MVP nationwide as of early spring 2017. It is now the world’s largest genomic database tied to a health care system.
