New Breakfast Buddy Program

Butler, PA – On Friday June 24 VA Butler Healthcare introduced its new Breakfast Buddy Program to complement the Breakfast Buffet held every Friday morning for Community Living Center Veteran residents. Every week on Friday mornings, VA Butler’s Nutrition and Food Services Program selects a VA employee to socialize with a Veteran resident (their “Breakfast Buddy”) and enjoy a complimentary breakfast buffet together.

“It’s a great program, and a good breakfast too,” said VA employee and Army Veteran Dan Myers, the first employee “Breakfast Buddy.” Dan, a certified respiratory therapist at VA Butler joined Community Living Center (CLC) Veteran resident Dominic DiGiammarino (also an Army Veteran) for the first ever Breakfast Buddy program. VA Butler’s Nutrition and Food Services staff served a hot, selective buffet-style breakfast in conjunction with grilled “eggs-to-order.” Menu items included everything from breakfast meats and potatoes, to fresh fruit and an assortment of pastries, the sweet rolls being Veteran Dominic’s favorite breakfast item.

“The program allows both Veteran residents and VA staff time to enjoy and socialize by sharing a meal together,” said Tim Evanoff, Nutrition and Food Services Program Manager. The selected VA employee escorts his/her Veteran CLC resident to the dining room and receives a complimentary breakfast while enjoying the company of the Veteran resident. Both the Veteran resident and the VA staff member will rotate each week.

“I plan to expand the number of VA staff participants at any one time, at the Friday Breakfast Buffet,” said Tim. “Based on the popularity of the program, I also plan to expand the program for the Lunch and Supper buffet meals, five to possibly seven days per week.”
