VA BUTLER INVITES COMMUNITY TO SALUTE VETERANS

January 14, 2010

VA Butler Healthcare invites the public to participate in The Annual National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans program that will be celebrated February 8 – 14, 2010. The Salute is a way of remembering and showing compassion for our nation’s hospitalized Veterans…thanking them for their service and sacrifices. The program offers members of the community an opportunity to visit the Veterans and to learn more about the importance, and necessity, of volunteerism.

"Our medical center’s 600 plus volunteers are an important part of our health care team and the National Salute program is a great way for people to learn more about helping the Veterans we serve here at the medical center," Patricia Nealon, Director, VA Butler Healthcare, said. "Visitors are often surprised at how varied our volunteer opportunities are."

Citizens, young and old, are once again sending Valentine’s Day cards and letters to VA facilities simply addressed "Dear Veteran". Nealon said they will be distributed to Veterans throughout the facility the week of the National Salute program.

All visitations must be pre-arranged. Individuals or groups wishing to participate in the National Salute program should call VA Butler’s Voluntary Service office at 724-285-2576 or 724-285-2575.
