VA Video Connect Expands Veterans’ Access to Health Care - A new telehealth program, VA Video Connect (VVC), is available at VA Butler Healthcare. It allows Veterans to connect with their health care teams over live video from a computer, tablet or smart phone from the comfort of their homes, thereby increasing their access to VA health care and reducing travel times. Summer Health & Wellness Event 2018 - VA Butler’s Health Promotion & Disease Prevention Program is hosting its annual Summer Health & Wellness Event. Butler County Manufacturing Consortium at VA Butler Healthcare - VA Butler Healthcare will host the “Butler County Manufacturing Consortium” to bring together local companies in need of hiring individuals, training their employees, and for networking opportunities. New Text Messaging System for Veterans - To increase access to health care for all Veterans, the Veterans Health Administration has created VEText, an interactive mobile solution to remind Veterans of upcoming appointments via text messaging. Baby Shower for local Women Veterans - To honor and support Veterans welcoming new children into their families in 2018, 60 U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Centers (VAMC) around the country will host baby showers during the weeks surrounding Mother’s Day, in partnership with the Elizabeth Dole Foundation. New Diabetes Program Coming in August - Beginning August 7, 2014 VA Butler Healthcare will offer Veterans a new group program for diabetes prevention called Group Lifestyle Balance. The goal for participants is to lose weight, and ultimately help delay or prevent the onset of Type 2 Diabetes. (07/14/2014)

Soldiers Coming Home Are At Risk For Homelessness - As our armed forces return home from Iraq, Americans expect to see these Soldiers greeted with tearful hugs of jubilation. It is hard to imagine these returning service members will be at risk for homelessness. Secretary of Veteran Affairs Eric Shinseki has made Veteran homelessness a priority of his administration and committed the VA to end Veteran homelessness in five years. Roughly 1 in 5 homeless adults are Veterans and Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans are finding themselves categorized as homeless faster than Veterans of previous wars. (09/02/2010)

VA BUTLER SCHEDULES FLU CLINICS FOR FALL 2010 - VA Butler Healthcare will be offering flu vaccine clinics to Veterans at the facility’s main campus and at other community locations within the facility’s service area. Attached is a schedule of flu clinic dates, times and locations. The VA Is Working To End Veteran Homelessness - Secretary of Veteran Affairs Eric Shinseki has pledged to end Veteran homelessness in five years. Roughly 23 percent of all homeless adults are Veterans. "Most of the homeless Veterans I see have the same issues," said Peter Loeb. "The majority have post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or difficulty dealing with their health or mental issues." Peter is a certified recovery specialist and homeless peer support employee at VA Butler Healthcare. He understands the difficulties homeless veterans face firsthand. After nearly twenty-four years of dealing with depression, addiction and homelessness, Peter was able to get help through the VA. (09/02/2010)

VA Butler begins construction on domiciliary - BUTLER TWP - Construction is about to begin on a new $8.5 million residential domiciliary on the VA Butler Healthcare campus. When complete, the project will include a treatment center and four apartment buildings to house up to 56 veterans who are either homeless or suffer from substance abuse or mental illness. VISN4 Network Director honored with Presidential Award - PITTSBURGH - July 29, 2010 - Michael E. Moreland, Network Director, VA Healthcare VISN 4, received the 2009 Meritorious Presidential Rank Award during a ceremony today at the National Guard Association in Washington, DC. VA BUTLER HELPS VETERAN AND WIFE CELEBRATE THEIR 60TH ANNVERSARY - To help the couple celebrate 60 years of wedded bliss, VA Butler hosted a special lunch for Wilbur and his wife, complete with music, balloons and a special wedding cake. "This is a once in a lifetime moment and we wanted to make today special for them," comments Barb Taylor, Recreation Therapy Specialist for VA Butler Healthcare. PRESCRIPTION COPAY INCREASES FOR SOME VETERANS - (BUTLER, PENNSYLVANIA) Some veterans will see an increase in their prescription copayments from $8 for each 30-day supply to $9. This change will take effect July 1, 2010. (06/23/2010)

Driver Rehabilitation Program - The ability to drive is a mark of independence, so when a patient has his driver's license taken away it can be upsetting. The loss of driving privileges is what happens to many patients when they suffer significant injury or illness.
